EDUCATION

"Currently less than 40% of practicing surgeons know the correct location in a car for a child in a car seat - how can we expect them to educate their patients?"

M. Margaret Knudson, MD
Director, San Francisco Injury Center

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

A clear focus for the San Francisco Injury Center is the training of physicians in all areas of injury control. Medical students and resident physicians have the opportunity to gain experience in planning and conducting research in our basic and clinical laboratories. Using a computer-controlled patient simulator, we offer hands-on training in the skills required to treat trauma victims without need for "real" patients. Health care professionals in all areas have the responsibility to educate their patients in primary injury prevention, but these professionals must first be educated themselves.

Injury Center personnel are involved in designing educational courses in injury prevention for widespread dissemination in health care fields. Dissemination of information from our Center also occurs through scientific publications, conference sponsorship, media events, speaking engagements, and via our website.
